Keyshawn King has been named Gatorade State Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year! The Gatorade Player of the Year award was established in 1985 to recognize the nation’s most elite high school student-athletes for their athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character.
Coach Patrick Canterbury states, “Nobody is more deserving of the Gatorade Play of the Year Award than Keyshawn. Keyshawn has earned this award through nonstop hard work at the track and in the classroom. This award not only recognizes Keyshawn’s accomplishments on the track and in the classroom, but also the other activities Keyshawn participates in such as Marching Band and Varsity Basketball. By being a well-rounded multi-sport athlete, Keyshawn put himself in an even better position to be recognized, in Liberty, South Carolina, and across the nation. This award puts an amazing end to Keyshawn’s High School Career that was marked by numerous record setting performances, County, Region, and State Championships, and a High School US#1 Jump of 51 feet 4 ¼ inches.”
Just a few of Keyshawn’s awards are the 2016, 2017, and 2018 State Champion Triple Jumper. He was also named All State in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
Keyshawn is the second Red Devil to win this prestigious award. Junior Alexander also won the award in 1993. The entire Liberty community is so proud of Keyshawn and cannot wait to see what the future holds for him as he begins his collegiate career this fall at Stanford University.
