LIBERTY, SC- Liberty High School junior, Cal Finley, has been invited to participate in the Clemson Invitational High School Indoor Mile this weekend. This race is an elite, invitational only race, consisting of some of the best high school distance runners in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The race takes place during the Clemson Invitational, an indoor track meet taking place at Clemson University. The meet features multiple Division 1 track teams from around the country, including some of the best teams the ACC, SEC, and Big 12 have to offer. Clemson’s track facility is world class, featuring a 200m indoor track with a Mondo surface. The Mondo surface is the same type of track surface that is used international track competitions, including the Olympics. The track is known throughout the country as one of the fastest in Indoor Track Competition. Last year, US Olympian Christian Coleman unofficially broke the World Record while competing in the 60m Dash. Cal who will compete as an unattached athlete, due to SCHSL rules, will look to use the traditionally fast track to set the school record in the mile (for indoor competition). The record is currently held by Abe Balawi, with a time of 4:47.89 in 2012. Abe’s time was also ran at the Clemson Indoor Facility.
