Red Devils fell 4-3 to Socastee on Thursday despite out-hitting them nine to four.
Red Devils opened up scoring in the first inning, when Logan Cartee singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
Socastee pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Jordan Murphy singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run, Caid Byrd’s sac fly scored one run for Socastee, Bryson Reeder drew a walk, scoring one run, and Sean Campbell singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Maddox Smith led things off on the mound for Socastee. He allowed six hits and two runs over four innings, striking out four and walking one.
Colin Finster was on the hill for Red Devils. He lasted five innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out six. Matthew Kannarney threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Red Devils collected nine hits. Nick Miller, Cartee, and Finster each had multiple hits for Red Devils. Finster, Cartee, and Miller each collected two hits to lead Red Devils.
Murphy went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Socastee in hits. Socastee didn’t commit a single error in the field. Murphy had 11 chances in the field, the most on the team.
