Red Devils nabbed the lead late in the game in a 9-8 victory over Abbeville on Tuesday. Red Devils was down 8-7 in the bottom of the sixth inning when McKenzie Porter singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Red Devils earned the victory despite allowing Abbeville to score six runs in the second inning. Abbeville’s big inning was driven by walks by Smith and Broome, a single by Burton, and a groundout by McCurry.
Abbeville fired up the offense in the second inning, when Gordon drew a walk, scoring one run.
Hannah Whitaker led things off in the circle for Red Devils. She allowed four hits and six runs over four innings, striking out two.
Cannady was in the pitcher’s circle for Abbeville. She went six innings, allowing nine runs on 14 hits, striking out two and walking one.
Red Devils smacked one home run on the day. Whitaker had a four bagger in the fifth inning.
Red Devils racked up 14 hits. Porter, Carly White, Bailey Watkins, Whitaker, and Sophia Roberts all had multiple hits for Red Devils. Porter led Red Devils with three hits in four at bats.
Abbeville scattered ten hits in the game. Cannady, Ferguson, and McCurry each had multiple hits for Abbeville. Cannady went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Abbeville in hits.
The Lady Red Devils begin playoffs at Indian Land High School Thursday at 6:00 PM.
