Liberty Red Devils Varsity defeated Pickens 3-0 on Saturday as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Nolan Evatt induced a groundout from Cooper O’Sullivan to finish off the game.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Liberty Red Devils Varsity pitchers struck out five, while Pickens pitchers sat down seven.
Liberty Red Devils Varsity got things started in the second inning when Evatt doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
A single by O’Sullivan in the first inning was a positive for Pickens.
Drew Bledsoe was the winning pitcher for Liberty Red Devils Varsity. The righthander lasted three innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out four and walking one. Evatt threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Evatt recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Liberty Red Devils Varsity.
Wyatt Dodgens took the loss for Pickens. The hurler allowed four hits and two runs over four innings, striking out six.
Cole Garrick started the game for Liberty Red Devils Varsity. The lefthander allowed five hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out one and walking one.
Trevor Crowe, Kaleb Johnson, Evatt, Jack Thompson, and Camryn Gambrell all had one hit to lead Liberty Red Devils Varsity.
Pickens totaled seven hits. Ryan Ford and O’Sullivan all collected multiple hits for Pickens.
